Teen Arrested for Drug Driving After Swerving on M62

A teenager has been arrested for drug driving after being caught swerving across lanes on the M62. The 19-year-old was pulled over by police after officers noticed erratic driving behaviour, which raised concerns that the driver might be impaired. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers conducted a roadside drugs test, which confirmed the presence of cannabis in the driver’s system.

The incident occurred late at night on a busy section of the M62 near Leeds. According to reports, the driver was seen drifting between lanes and struggling to maintain control of the vehicle, leading other motorists to alert the police. Officers quickly responded and pulled the vehicle over, where they found the driver to be disoriented and exhibiting signs of impairment.

After administering the drug test, police arrested the teenager on suspicion of drug driving. He was taken into custody and later charged with driving under the influence of cannabis. In court, the teenager admitted to using the drug earlier in the day and expressed regret for his actions. His lawyer argued that this was a mistake and that the teenager had not realised the lingering effects of the drug.

The court, however, took a stern view of the offence, particularly given the dangers posed by drug-impaired driving on a busy motorway. The magistrate noted that drug driving is becoming an increasing concern for authorities and that young drivers, in particular, need to be aware of the serious consequences. The teenager was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £500 fine.

Following the case, local police reminded drivers of the risks associated with drug driving and urged anyone who suspects a driver may be impaired to contact the authorities. They also highlighted the importance of education and awareness campaigns to address the rising number of drug driving offences, particularly among younger drivers.
