A 45-year-old woman from Bassetlaw has been banned from driving after being found more than four times over the legal alcohol limit. The incident occurred on January 11, when police received a tip-off about a potential drink-driver at a fast-food outlet on Arlington Way in Retford.

Officers arrived to find Claire Tomlinson appearing very confused. A breath test revealed she had 149 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

Tomlinson, who had no prior convictions, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on February 5 and pleaded guilty to drink-driving. She was sentenced to a 12-month community order, including 100 hours of unpaid work and ten rehabilitation days. Additionally, she was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £114 victim surcharge. Her driving ban will last for 36 months, though completion of a rehabilitation course could reduce the disqualification period if completed before March 2027.

This case underscores the severe consequences of drink-driving and the importance of adhering to legal alcohol limits to ensure road safety.
