It has been reported that officers from the Central Motorway Police Group have started a new operation to clamp down on anti social, and dangerous driving habits.

The Central Motorway Police Group is a collaboration between the forces of West Mercia, Staffordshire, West Midlands and Warwickshire police forces.

Under the name of Operation Hercules, police will patrol major roads looking for speeders and those driving illegally modified vehicles.

Since the launch of the operation on February 7 2016, police officers have seized some 10 cars and summonsed more than 30 motorists for the manner and speed they were driving. They now face being fined, having their driving licences endorsed with penalty points and or being offered driving improvement courses.

Back in December 2015 David Thompson, the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police said that the region had a big problem with illegal street racers. He also warned that both overt and covert tactics were to be used by police officers in stopping and bringing to justice those targeted drivers.

With regards the car seizures, PC Adam Jobson stated, “Cars were seized for a variety of reasons: some had dangerously dark tinted windows and others had modifications that potentially nullified their insurance.

“Four Section 59 notices were issued to drivers. If they are caught street racing or driving anti-socially again, thus breaching the conditions, we will seize the car. And that means the owner faces a sizeable bill for storage and release costs.”

In 2015 Birmingham was names as the UK Capital for “Boy Racing” with 47 drivers living in city now having driving licence endorsements for racing.
